Areca Peel Essential Oil is extracted via supercritical fluid extraction from the dried pericarp of Areca catechu L. (Palmae).
Harvesting and Processing Methods:
- The unripe fruits are harvested from winter to early spring, then boiled, dried, longitudinally cut into two halves, and the pericarp is peeled off. This product is commonly termed "Pericarpium Arecae".
- The ripe fruits are harvested from late spring to early autumn, then boiled, dried, and the pericarp is peeled, loosened, and sun-dried. This product is termed "Loose Pericarpium Arecae".

Alleviates abdominal distension, fullness, and poor appetite caused by dampness obstruction and qi stagnation, often combined with Magnolia Bark (Houpo) and Agastache (Huoxiang) to enhance efficacy.
- Promotes gastrointestinal motility, improves indigestion and constipation, with significant effects on food stagnation-type distension (e.g., belching with fetid odor and acid regurgitation).
- Promoting Diuresis to Reduce Edema, Improving Metabolism
Treats edema, abdominal distension, and dysuria (difficult urination), particularly effective for limb swelling caused by kidney disorders or dampness retention. Often combined with Poria Cocos Skin (Fulingpi) and Acanthopanax Bark (Wujiapi) to enhance efficacy.
