Description
Bupleurum essential oil is extracted from the dried roots of Bupleurum chinense DC. or Bupleurum scorzonerifolium Willd. (Apiaceae family). Based on morphological characteristics, they are commonly termed 'Northern Bupleurum' (Bei Chaihu) and 'Southern Bupleurum' (Nan Chaihu). The roots are harvested in spring or autumn, followed by removal of stems, leaves, and soil before drying.
