Manufacture Process
Synthetic Route of Resorcinol
- Step ①: Acetylation
Resorcinol undergoes Friedel-Crafts acylation with glacial acetic acid catalyzed by anhydrous zinc chloride, yielding 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone as the intermediate.
- Step ②: Methylation & Purification
The intermediate 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone is methylated with iodomethane (CH₃I), followed by acidification with hydrochloric acid and recrystallization to obtain pure paeonol (2'-hydroxy-4'-methoxyacetophenone, C₉H₁₀O₃).
