Everyone knows that essential oils have a wide range of uses, but do you know the precautions when using them? Let's explore them today.

1. Dilution is essential.

Essential oils are extracted from plant essences and are highly concentrated, so most oils require dilution before use.

2. Avoid contact with eyes.

Also due to their high concentration, essential oils should not come into contact with eyes. If used around the eyes, mix 1 drop of essential oil with 10 ml of carrier oil.

3. Local allergy test.

Apply 1 drop of essential oil to the back of your wrist and apply tape. If any irritation or redness develops after 1 hour, rinse immediately with cold water and double the dilution or avoid use completely.

4. Avoid sun exposure after using some essential oils.

Some essential oils contain photosensitizing ingredients. Sun exposure can cause skin darkening. Generally speaking, citrus essential oils, such as lemon, bergamot, and sweet orange, are photosensitizing. Therefore, avoid using these essential oils in bright sunlight and avoid sun exposure after use. It is recommended to use them at night.

5. Do not use a single essential oil continuously.

It is recommended not to use the same essential oil continuously for more than three weeks to prevent the body from developing a resistance to the oil, which can reduce its effectiveness. In contrast, blended essential oils can be used continuously for approximately three months, but not for more than six months.
