Essential oils have many wonderful uses, including helping to combat skin aging. This is a benefit many people are looking for right now; using essential oils is a natural and effective way to age gracefully and look younger.
Today I'll tell you about some very impressive, all-natural anti-aging essential oils, including both essential oils and carrier oils, to help you successfully combat aging.
These are some of the key essential oils that help reduce forehead wrinkles, crow's feet, nasolabial folds, and other wrinkles you're trying to reduce or prevent signs of aging.
1. Jojoba Oil
You may not have heard much about jojoba oil, but it's arguably one of the most moisturizing carrier oils in the world, and it does so in a surprisingly non-oily way. Jojoba oil contains many beneficial components, including vitamin E, a B-complex vitamin, silicon, chromium, copper, and zinc.
Is jojoba oil the best anti-wrinkle oil? It definitely deserves a spot on this list. Jojoba oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, making it ideal for preventing skin aging. It's also effective for skin infections and wound healing.
Sebaceous glands are tiny glands on the skin that secrete an oily or waxy substance called sebum. As we age, our sebaceous glands produce less and less sebum, which is why our skin and hair become drier with age-this can even lead to dandruff or an itchy scalp. Human sebum has a very similar texture to jojoba oil, which is why it's so effective at improving dry skin, overall skin health, and appearance.
One of the main benefits of jojoba oil is that it can function like sebum, moisturizing our skin and hair when our body stops naturally moisturizing. On the other hand, excessive sebum production when hormone levels are high can lead to oily skin and acne. Jojoba oil is also great at removing stickiness or excess oil; so it helps maintain your skin's oil-water balance. This makes it an effective natural treatment for eczema and acne, plus it's great for other dry skin conditions and can also help soothe sunburn.
As a moisturizer, jojoba oil moisturizes our skin and prevents irritation. Dry skin is caused by the loss of moisture from the upper layers of the skin. Jojoba oil works by forming a protective oil layer on the skin's surface, helping to retain moisture. It can be used on your face, neck, hands, feet, and hair; you can use it anywhere on your body because it's completely natural. As long as you buy pure jojoba oil, it won't contain any problematic chemicals or additives that will irritate your skin.
Jojoba oil doesn't cause acne, meaning it won't clog pores. It's also rich in iodine, which helps fight the growth of harmful bacteria that can cause acne. The antioxidants in jojoba oil help suppress fine lines and naturally slow other signs of aging.
A study by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Life Sciences showed that jojoba oil can also accelerate the wound healing process. Results showed that jojoba oil can accelerate wound healing and stimulate collagen synthesis; the study also noted that jojoba oil has extremely low toxicity when used on the skin.
A 2012 study in Germany examined 194 participants who participated in reducing skin damage and improving overall skin condition, applying a face mask containing jojoba oil two to three times a week. 54% of participants reported a significant reduction in acne-prone skin lesions after six weeks of using jojoba oil. So jojoba oil can also help prevent acne!
2. Pomegranate Seed Oil
Next, let's look at pomegranate seed oil, another important base oil, and possibly even a natural remedy for skin cancer. According to animal studies, pomegranate seed oil appears to be a "safe and effective natural chemical for preventing skin cancer." Pomegranates have been used historically for their numerous benefits, and they are considered one of the bible foods for curing diseases.
In particular, pomegranates are associated with anti-aging, and the most effective form of pomegranate for anti-aging is its oil. You'll notice that pomegranate seed oil is dark red, due to the presence of beneficial bioflavonoids. The bioflavonoids and fatty acids in pomegranate seed oil make it excellent at protecting the skin from sun damage. In fact, in vitro studies have shown that pomegranate seed oil has a natural SPF of 8, making it a great natural sunscreen ingredient. This is why we include pomegranate seed oil in our homemade sunscreen recipes.
3. Frankincense Essential Oil
What are the benefits of frankincense essential oil? First, it's often used to reduce the appearance of sunspots and age spots. If your skin tone is uneven, with areas that are too light, or has spots or dark spots, frankincense essential oil is a first choice to help even out skin tone and help remove sunspots and age spots.
Frankincense essential oil is a powerful astringent that can be used to help reduce the appearance of acne, large pores, and wrinkles. Frankincense essential oil is also one of the best firming oils. This oil can be used anywhere the skin is sagging, such as the abdomen, jawline, or under the eyes. Mix six drops of the essential oil with 30ml of jojoba oil and apply directly to the skin.
You can also try my homemade eye cream recipe, which includes frankincense essential oil, as it's one of my favorite oils for addressing wrinkles around the eyes.
Frankincense essential oil has the ability to strengthen the skin and improve its tone, elasticity, defense mechanisms against bacteria or blemishes, and appearance. Studies have shown that it has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce stretch marks and scars.
4. Lavender Essential Oil
Looking for more essential oils to combat wrinkles around your mouth or other parts of your body? I absolutely couldn't remove lavender essential oil from this list. It may be the number one oil to help heal skin conditions, burns, and cuts, but it also works wonders against signs of aging! You need antioxidants to successfully fight free radical damage, including signs of aging like wrinkles and fine lines. According to research, lavender essential oil can help your body produce three of the most effective antioxidants: glutathione, catalase, and superoxide dismutase.
Lavender essential oil is known for its antibacterial and antioxidant properties, and when blended with beneficial aloe vera or coconut oil, it can have a profoundly positive effect on the skin. Combining 10 drops of lavender essential oil with 30ml of aloe vera or coconut oil can help soothe even the most severe sunburns and promote rapid healing of dry skin and minor cuts.
Want to reduce age spots? Try mixing lavender and frankincense essential oils with jojoba oil before bed and applying it to those areas.
5. Rosehip Oil
This is definitely one of the best oils for treating wrinkles and age spots. Rosehip oil, made from rosehip seeds, is a highly concentrated anti-aging substance. Why is this rosehip oil so beneficial for skin health? It contains many known nutrients that promote skin health and have anti-aging effects.
Rosehip oil, also known as rosehip seed oil, is a rich source of fatty acids (EFAs), including oleic acid, palmitic acid, linoleic acid, and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). These EFAs are excellent at combating dryness and reducing the appearance of fine lines.
Rosehip is also one of the richest plant sources of Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps with collagen production, which slows down with age. Adding Vitamin C products, such as rosehip oil, to your beauty routine can directly help increase collagen and combat signs of aging.
